Chapter 10 - A Knock

After having a sleepless night of tossing and turning and after much internal debate on how to go about mending things with Liberty, Leroy decided he would try to compose a song on the violin for her. He hoped that it would be able to convey both his being sorry for the stupid things he had said and that he was very happy for their friendship all in this one gesture.  Leroy knew that writing a song would take quite some time to develop, so wasting no time, he literally spent all day playing the violin with only a quick pause to use the restroom and get a couple snacks from the refrigerator. Leroy was so caught up plucking the latest five note combo on the strings, when he was startled by a knock at the front door.  It was 12:05 a.m. according to his phone screen, who could possibly be coming to the house at this hour?!
When Leroy opened the door, he faced a man like no other, with skin as pale as a glass of milk, fancy spats and a long black trench coat.
"Hello there, I haff come to whelcome you to Whindenburg...and oh what a mighty fine neck you haff!" Drawled the very skinny, very pale, man.
"Oh...Hi...I...Ummm..."  Leroy stammered.
Not wanting to be rude, Leroy asked hesitantly, "Would you like to come in?!"
"I whould, thank-u!  May I introduce myself?  I am Count Vladislaus Straud!" The pale man said stepping into the house with a bow.
"Pardon, but did you say Count?! Leroy asked questioningly, he couldn't have possibly heard correctly.
*cough* "Oh, er...No, no...jus Vladislaus...Vladislaus Stroud, but to those whom I allow to do so, Vlad." The strange man said with a wave of his hand.
Leroy introduced himself and apologized for the lack of furniture or personal belongings when the pale man, er Vlad, glanced around at his surroundings with a look of which Leroy took to be disdain.

Leroy was enveloped with a wave of dislike and couldn't shake the feeling that he would need to keep a close eye on this Vlad fellow, whom he'd just allowed in.  The mysterious man was from a neighboring town, Forgotten Hollow, and the reason for his visiting at such a late hour, as well as his abnormally pale complexion, was due to his aversion to the warm rays of the sun (now THAT was strange).  The conversation was clipped and quite hesitant on both parties until the topic of music came up, THAT was something that they were both passionate about.  Leroy told Vlad all about his trails with the violin and how he'd have yet to try out the guitar he was given, and Vlad bragged about how well he could play on the organ and that he had a very old, vintage rather, organ in his basement, and he offered to show Leroy anytime he wanted to stop by.

Leroy excused himself to use the restroom, and when he came back downstairs, Vlad had disappeared!  Leroy hadn't heard Vlad say good bye, never heard the front door being opened or closed and when he looked out the front door, Vlad was nowhere to be seen, it was like ole Vlad had up and vanished into thin air!  Leroy couldn't say he was upset that Vlad had gone "missing", if he was honest, the guy gave him the heebie-geebies, and since he really had more of what Leroy would consider, a sour disposition, Leroy was downright pleased, but at the same time, he wasn't opposed to checking out that vintage organ someday, should he find himself in Forgotten Hollow...
