Chapter 8 - L'Attente Gumbo

Leroy was just fishing out the house keys to unlock the front door when his cell phone beeped.  Looking down, he was surprised to see that Bjorn Bjergsen, someone he had met at South Square Coffee his first night in Windenburg, had left a text message inviting him out to L'Atentte for dinner tonight.  Perfect, Leroy thought, an excuse to try out that Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo he had spied on their menu!
"I'll b there in a few minutes (smiley face emoji)" Leeroy texted.
"(thumbs up emoji) I can't wait 2 hear how you've been settling in, c u soon, replied Bjorn.

Leroy met up with Bjorn, just inside the bistro, where the request had just been put in for their table of two.  The gentlemen were escorted to their clean and waiting table, outside on the terrace, as the bistro was rather busy on the inside.  Leroy thought it looked like a completely different place at night, with the overhead lighting on, and the gas warming lamps all lit up.  He enjoyed the warmth on his back as he perused the menu and chatted conversationally with Bjorn.

A few minutes later, the waitress was at the table taking their order. "Hi there! Have you two decided on what you'd like to try this evening?!"
Bjorn replied, "There are so many things on the menu I'd like to try, but since I just harvested my butternut squash the other day, and know it must be fresh, I'll have that.  Oh, and a glass of iced water as well," he added.
Leroy, of course went for a bowl of the Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo, it had been on his radar since his first trip to L'Attente
"I can't decide what I should order for my drink...do you have any recommendations?" Leroy asked the waitress.  "Better yet, how bout you surprise me!" he said, before she could answer.
"You got it!" the waitress said with a wink.  Anything else I can get you two gentlemen, or shall I grab those drinks and put your order in?"
The both agreed that the two meals and two drinks would probably be sufficient, and the waitress hurried off with a swish of her hips.
It wasn't long before their meal was prepared and being set in front of them!
"And here you go folks, the Butternut Soup and an iced water for you, and here your Sausage and Shrimp Gumbo, you're in for a real treat, and I brought you a Cream Cola to wash it all down with!" the waitress said with a smile.  "Is there anything else?"
"I think we're good here, I can't wait to dig in!" Leroy said, smiling back.
"Mmmm-mmmm-mmmmm! I KNEW this would be fresh!" said Bjorn enthusiastically.
The waitress was very quick to clear away any of their used dishes and refill their drinks, Leroy was quite impressed with both the service and the food!

Bjorn told Leroy all about the Garden Gnomes, gardening club that he was part of, and he talked about his wife, Clara and his daughters Sofia and Elsa, fondly.  Leroy thoroughly enjoying his gumbo, reminisced about the fantastic outing to The Von Haunt Estate that he had enjoyed with Liberty Lee, but left out the bit about what he thought he might have seen, and told Bjorn he was getting along just fine, here in Windenburg, and that the house, overall, was coming along nicely.  He explained about the small garden planter he had crafted and all about his water debacle.
"HA HA HA that sure must have been a sight!  I just HAVE to relay this story to the Garden Gnomes, I'm sure our leader will get a kick out of this!" Bjorn said, laughing heartily.

As Leroy was polishing off the last couple of bites of his dinner, the yawning started,  he hated to end the fun, but the previous night's events were finally starting to catch up with him.
Noticing that Leroy and Bjorn looked like they were finishing up, the waitress hurried over to their table.
"Were either of you interested in desert tonight?!" she inquired.
"No thank-you," said Bjorn.
"Nope, I think I'm good here! Leroy stated with a smile.  I'll take the check!"
"Well that doesn't seem right as I was the one who asked YOU here for dinner....but if you want to pick up the tab, who am I to complain?!" Bjorn said with a chuckle.
"If you ever want to pay for my dinner, you're more than welcome to do so," the waitress said with a twinkle in her eye, setting the bill on the edge of the table she sashayed away.
"I'm pretty sure this needs to go with out saying, but I believe that waitress had eyes for you, Leroy," whispered Bjorn.  "Anyhow, thanks for the dinner and the company!  You should stop by the house sometime and meet my wife and daughters...don't be a stranger!  I'm glad to hear things are going well for you here, and if you need any help or advice with that garden, don't hesitate to ask," said Bjorn as he headed out of the bistro.  Leroy payed the bill at the front, and he too left the bistro and headed home.

Hmmm...the waitress had eyes for me eh?!  Well, she wasn't bad looking...and I know where she works....maybe I can "bump into her" again sometime, Leroy thought, as the trolley conductor pulled away.
