Chapter 5 - Being Resourceful

Leroy was up by 6:00 am the following morning, and had put in a food list order to Gardens Grocers, the grocery store, fifteen minutes later.  He wasn't so keen on having to spend so much on groceries and it really got him thinking about starting his own garden to help keep costs down.  So Leroy fashioned a planter box together with the remaining slats from the pallets he used to construct his bed frame, and quickly added some vegetable seeds to his order.

The delivery would be arriving by 9:00 am, so Leroy had some time to browse more household goods at Roadstead's online shopping webpage.  In all the excitement yesterday, he had totally forgotten about purchasing a sink and a trashcan for the house, the cardboard box from the microwave pastries had reminded him when he went to throw it out, and he had to turn on the bathwater just to wash his hands!  So he browsed through his limited options of stand alone sinks and small indoor trashcans, and made his order, both in basic white, due for arrival shortly, as the store didn't have any other deliveries lined up for today as of yet.
All was safely delivered and the shop owner had even thrown in an old Pied Piper Acoustic Guitar since they had ordered too many by accident and would rather it find a good home where someone would get some use out of it, than stuff it in the back stock room where it would do nothing but collect dust!  Leroy thought he would be perfectly content spending the rest of his day trying out new songs on the violin, it was amazing what just a few hours of practice had done to the sounds he could now produce!  Leroy was certain that he would be able to pull of a Concerto and maybe be more daring and play some songs from the rock genre, but first, he had to attend to his new belongings.

Leroy hooked up the new, plain and simple sink in the upstairs bathroom.  It paled in comparison to his fancy tub, and if it hadn't been for the cheap toilet he had also purchased the other day, it might not have look like it belonged up there at all.  He placed the trashcan downstairs at the end of the row of kitchen counters, where he thought it would get the most use, and then lovingly set the guitar next to his violin.  He was curious to get started on learning another stringed instrument, but thought he'd better leave the acoustic guitar "training" for another day.

The grocery order arrived just as he was starting up the stairs to rest on his bed to wait, so it really was good timing!  He thanked the delivery service and then took the bags into the kitchen to unpack. It was rather nice filling up empty cupboards and drawers, and he half smirked to himself, thinking how it was pretty neat that he didn't have someone telling him what he could and couldn't eat anymore, that was young adulthood for ya!  There was a separate bag filled with his purchased vegetable seeds, but surprisingly, it looked like they had thrown in a spade and a watering can as well with a note that read:
Dear Mr. Decker,

Here are the vegetable seeds that you've ordered.  You should find some Smooth Leaf Spinach seeds, some Cremini Mushroom spores as well as some carrot seeds, that oughta' get you started!  I've thrown in a spade as well as a watering can, on the house!  Hope you'll have a garden worth being proud of, in no time!

Signed,
Gardens Grocers General Manager

Taking the watering can, the spade and his seeds out to the side yard, where his garden planter was erected, he prepared to get started.  In two sections of the planter, he added in the spinach seeds, and then added in one section for mushrooms, and another for the carrots.  All seeds were set in the soil and properly covered, it was then that he realized that, although he had a watering can, he didn't have a sink large enough to accommodate it, there was no hose or anything, so where was he going to fill it up?!  Coincidentally, the dock area wasn't far, so Leroy walked down the winding pathway, dipped his watering can there right off the cobblestone platform near the fishing sign, and then made the short trek back to the house.
"Well, that was fun...I know what's next on my list for purchase." Leroy said, chuckling at his newly planted, and now freshly watered, vegetable garden.
Leroy had just finished clearing away his dishes from his evening meal of microwave heated chicken nuggets, he heard some strong musical beats coming from just down the way.  He was almost certain that it was emanating from the nightclub he had seen back in the city center area.  Deciding to check out what all the hubbub was about, Leroy went upstairs and changed into a clean plain black t-shirt and jeans.  Then, tying a flannel around his waist just in case it cooled off, he headed out and down to the city center, following the pulsing beats.
